Omar
Gourari

Software developer. I build data-intelligence systems, the tooling around them, and the infrastructure they run on.

Now

Engineering manager at Deloitte in Milan, leading a team of developers and answering for what they ship. Everything else happens in the evenings.

Background

I came in sideways: two years selling web projects for agencies before I built any. Writing them myself started on the front end — component libraries, design systems, build pipelines — and curiosity about how a thing is actually assembled pulled me down through the stack: back ends, databases, deployment, and eventually the machines themselves.

Today I work mostly in Python, Rust, Go and TypeScript. I prefer plain Linux to containers, I self-host what I can on hardware I own, and I treat privacy as a constraint on the architecture rather than a paragraph in a policy.

Experience

  • Deloitte — engineering manager Milan, 2018 to now Eight years in the same place, in three shapes: software engineer, then technical lead, then engineering manager since 2023. I lead a team of developers and own delivery end to end — architecture, code quality, the people, and the conversation with stakeholders. A good part of the work is automation, some of it on UiPath, more of it on frameworks we built because the platform did not fit.
  • Megacane — founder Milan, 2019 to 2022 A multidisciplinary coworking space with seven benches: carpentry, luthiery, painting, photography and desks. I ran it for four years — residents, exhibitions, rentals for shoots — and learned that a community is an operational problem long before it is a cultural one.
  • Indie Hackers Milan — founder of the chapter 2018 to 2020 The first official Indie Hackers community in Italy. A monthly evening at Talent Garden, from twenty people in the room to a regular fifty or sixty, with speakers chosen so that the technical and the commercial sides of a bootstrapped project both got stage time.
  • Euclidea — software engineer Milan, 2016 to 2018 A wealth management and investment platform. I worked across the stack on the core product and on the portfolio management system, where the hard part is never the interface: it is keeping complex financial operations correct and reconstructable.
  • Aracon — code teacher Udine, 2016 Two freelance months for a social cooperative: I designed and taught an introductory course on web development. Explaining things to people who have never seen them is still the fastest way to find out which ones I half understood.
  • Ensoul — full-stack developer Udine, 2014 to 2016 Web applications, plus internal tools aimed at customer lifecycle value. I moved the company onto a multi-stage, git-based continuous deployment process, which turned releases from an event into a routine.
  • Moasy — owner 2011 to 2014 My own software company. Mid to large systems and e-commerce for Italian companies, full life cycle from requirements to delivery, with the same git-based deployment discipline underneath.
  • Before that 2009 to 2011 Business development for two web agencies, selling the kind of projects I would spend the next decade building. Earlier still, economics at Bocconi, which I left for the keyboard. Over the same years, and on until 2013, I co-founded Three Gold Eagles in Udine: an informal urban cycling association — alleycats, long rides, evenings out — that pulled hundreds of people to its events, mostly the same ones each time.

Anthropic certificates: Claude 101, Claude Code 101, Claude Code in Action, Introduction to Subagents, AI Fluency Framework & Foundations. PMI certification in progress.

Work

  • Antero A data-intelligence platform. Modular flows pull structured data out of heterogeneous public sources — courts, patent offices, registries — with traceability and access control designed in, not bolted on.
  • Nemo Research into systematic finance. Long-horizon index investing beside an experimental signal pipeline built on vector search over market and news data.
  • Edward A peer-to-peer clipboard manager whose privacy claims can be verified, backed by a trusted execution environment instead of a promise.
  • Private estate Dashboards, knowledge tooling and automation running on a Raspberry Pi and a small VPS behind a private network — not on anyone else's platform.
